CARPET CHOICES AND TYPES
Carpet is a very soft flooring material which provides a cushioned surface for the feet. Carpets are made using a variety of natural and synthetic fibers. Here are some common types of carpets.
Nylon: Nylon is the most popular type of carpet which is used in nearly three-quarters of all pieces. It is stain-resistant, durable and soft.
Polyester: Polyester carpets can hold vivid and vibrant colors that don’t fade over time. Polyester fibers are non-allergenic as well. These fibers are eco-friendly as they are made from recycled plastic bottles.
Polypropylene: Polypropylene carpets also are soft like nylon. The fibers are highly resilient and resistant to mildew, stains and shedding.
Wool: Wool is natural and long-lasting. Although it is the softest carpet fiber available, high-grade wool is very expensive. Low-grade wool is susceptible to staining. Wool can be mixed with synthetic fibers for creating carpets with the advantages of both.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CARPET FLOORING?
Appearance: With its elegant color, style, and pile heights, carpeting adds to the décor of any house or business.
Style: In spite of hard surfaces like hardwood taking up most pages of interior design magazines, carpet flooring has a splendid style of its own. Carpets are available in a variety of patterns, colors, and cuts, giving numerous possibilities to fulfill your needs and expectations. By just changing the style, carpet can give a space a totally different feel.
Insulation: Carpet provides the floors with a feeling of warmth. It helps save energy by contributing to the insulation of the indoor space. As it can insulate against extremely cold temperatures, carpet flooring can be the right choice if you are living in a place with a harsh winter.
Comfort: Carpets feel easier and softer on the feet than other surfaces. When you spend some time walking or standing on concrete or ceramic tiles, your body may feel sore and achy because the surfaces are so hard. These hard surfaces can’t act as shock absorbers as they do not offer any flexibility underfoot. As carpets provide shock absorption, they are more comfortable to walk.
Noise reduction: Hard surfaces cannot absorb like soft surfaces such as carpets. Carpet flooring contributes to a calm and quiet place because carpet absorbs sound. Carpet padding can enhance this ability further.
Safety: Hard surfaces are likely to be slippery. So, they pose the risk of slip-and-fall accidents. Carpeted floors are comparatively safer.
Cost savings: According to the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IIRC), carpets cost less over time to buy, clean and maintain when compared to hard surface flooring.
Health: Carpets trap dust, allergens and other contaminants and hold them until properly removed. Although there are different opinions, recent studies say carpets are more beneficial than hard surface floors for people suffering from breathing issues.
Easy maintenance: Carpets are easier to maintain and clean than hard surface flooring. So the maintenance cost is less.
Sustainability: There are innovative technologies using which old carpets can be recycled into new ones or various other products. This eliminates the requirement of obtaining raw materials.
